The Death and Life of Zebulon Finch, Volume One
At the Edge of Empire
By Daniel KrausI think this is tailor made for a movie. (As a book, it dragged on for a while.) However, the narrator's voice was unique and engaging, even if the details were quite gory and grotesque.
The intended takeaway seems to be that you can't overcome your nature, no matter how many shots you get. The anti-hero of the story just consistently let down or abandoned people who helped him and tended to cater to those who were toxic. Bad habits die hard (or never die at all...).
There is a Book 2, but I don't know if I have the stamina to take it on.
*Discovered this in a Little Library in my neighborhood. :)
