The Future Saints
Notes
Just when I think I know what to expect from Ashley Winstead--a heart-pounding thriller with allusions to a true crime ripped from the headlines--she does a complete 180 and gets me to fall in love with a story that ripped my heart out. The Future Saints is as close to literary fiction as I will probably ever get--messy characters dealing with grief, anger, and the cruelty of being a human who then restore my faith in humanity. Now don't get me wrong, I love a messy character. But I also love a HEA (or as close as possible). And do not make me cry. Winstead brought me as close to sobbing as any book has in the last decade. It took me days to recover. Few books have given me a hangover like The Future Saints. Winstead captures lightning in a bottle, and her brain should be studied.
