The Diamond Eye

Historical fiction.

Reasonably gripping fictionalized true story of a Ukrainian woman who was a history researcher when Germany invaded Russia during World War II. Lyudmila Pavlichenko became known as Lady Death for her 309 confirmed sniper kills in the early years of Russian involvement in the war, and went on to be an uncomfortable celebrity in the U.S. (while begging the U.S. to get involved in the Eastern Front) and a legitimate friend of Eleanor Roosevelt.

An amazing story - juiced up a little for fictional purposes, but it's easy to look her up and find out just how much truth there is to the story.
