Hell and Back

A Longmire Mystery

From the Longmire Mystery series
Things get more than a little strange for Sheriff Walt Longmire in this outing, as he goes against the advice of multiple people to head north to the town of Fort Pratt, Montana, where 31 Native boys were killed in a fire in 1896. But is there a Fort Pratt?

Walt wakes up in the snow in the middle of a street, in a largely deserted town he's never seen, with no memory of who he is, what he is, where he is, or why. From that beginning, "Hell and Back" moves into a challenging tale that crosses multiple times, brings back old favorites, and ties into the previous Longmire book, "Daughter of the Morning Star."

With no idea what to expect, I found myself truly enjoying this story. It's less modern Western crime and more timeless spiritual and psychological  - and also maybe paranormal?

I still really like Walt and his whole world, even after 18 (surely not... 18??) forays into Absaroka County, Wyoming.
