Notes
Okay. "The Gray Wolf" was pretty unnerving. "The Black Wolf" is so dang possible that it's close to terrifying, especially considering current U.S. and international politics. It's unsettling to realize just how believable some of the potential threats are, right now.
"The Gray Wolf" was about water. So is "The Black Wolf." Water, something I don't exactly worry about but I'm conscious of almost all the time.
Is this a perfect book? No. Penny's reliance on sentence fragments is annoying at first, but once the plot picks up you sort of get used to it. And the final act, while a riveting page-turner, also gets a bit away from the writer, making it sometimes challenging to keep up with who's where and when and how and why and why not. After a while, though, I stopped thinking about details like "where did XXX person go?" because the overall plot is so awfully mesmerizing.
Do you need to read "The Gray Wolf" first? Yeah, I'd say so. You could probably piece together some of what happens in "Gray" by close reading of "Black," but taken together they make a much stronger story.
Do I still love Louise Penny books?
I've read them all so far. That says something.
