Twelve Months
By Jim ButcherThis one had a lot more room to breathe than any of The Dresden Files books have had in a long time.
After the last two books, that’s a damn good thing; there was so much trauma and destruction that Harry really did (and still does) need time to process things and find a new equilibrium. He does find some of that here, but there’s clearly still a lot more to go.

How to Survive Camping
The Man with No Shadow
By Bonnie QuinnSomehow cozy, despite being filled with horrific ends for a lot of people.
Absolutely overflowing with unnamed cryptids, small town pettiness, trauma, and lethal consequences.
Looking forward to more!

Last Stop
An Epic Sci-Fi Adventure
By Django WexlerThis is pure pulp in the best way. Sky-Captain and the World of Tomorrow meets Indiana Jones by way of airship mercenary companies in spitfires and mustangs. Oh, and with absolutely massive preying-mantis type bugs.
Loads of fun.
Loads of fun.

The Incandescent
By Emily TeshReasonably good, but loses a bit due to pacing and structure.
Maybe I am a bit too reliant on the three act structure, but the novel has essentially five acts and a false climax right in the damn middle.
I also found the MC’s attitude in the beginning to be rather off-putting, and I should have remembered that unreliable narration includes “the author is hiding some big revelations for dramatic effect.”
