Fair
The Life-Art of Translation
Notes
I flipping loved this book. As a purveyor of books about translation by translators, Calleja's FAIR is cleverly framed and deeply insightful. I've yet to encounter a book that so succinctly and clearly articulates the cosmic difficulties of translating language from one language to another—and the profound intellect required to find "solutions" to the "problems" of such incompatibility. Translators are also creative writers! End of story! FAIR is fresh syllabus reading for new converts to the ecosystem of literature translated into English, after Kate Briggs' THIS LITTLE ART.
